IHP welcomes the reports of a promised ceasefire deal in Gaza and the commitment to release further hostages. We hope we will see a full activation of this ceasefire by Sunday, as agreed, and this will precede a permanent end to the violence, the return of all hostages to their families and a lasting peace in the region.
IHP adheres to the Red Cross Code of Conduct, supporting those with the greatest needs in regions across the world. We are actively responding in Gaza, the West Bank and Lebanon, among other territories.
With Gaza’s health system almost completely destroyed, it is vital that the ceasefire ensures essential medicines and health supplies can be safely distributed on a large scale across the region without delay or restriction. Health infrastructure, including hospitals and clinics, must be quickly established to enable access to healthcare where it is most needed.
Thanks to our generous supporters and partners, IHP has worked in Gaza and across the region for many years. In the past 15 months, we have increased our response to support over 500,000 people with life-saving primary care, supporting field clinics and distributing treatments for long-term conditions.
We are in close contact with our partners and will continue to work alongside and support them with urgent medicine and health supplies. Our shipments containing pain relief medication, antibiotics, treatments for hypertension and other chronic health conditions, as well as support for mental health conditions will continue in the coming weeks and months, and for as long as is needed. Our thoughts remain, as ever, with the people of Gaza, the hostages and their families, our partners and all humanitarians on the ground as they navigate the coming days and weeks.
