Give children with cancer a fighting chance this Christmas

400,000 children a year will develop cancer – the chance of survival is a geographical lottery. In Malawi, fewer than 30% of children with cancer are cured due to a lack of access to the treatments required

We believe that everyone – no matter who, or where they are – should be able to access the medicines and healthcare they need. Double your donation today to support the treatment of curable childhood cancer, and give the gift of life this Christmas.

Our lives have changed tremendously, but the free medicine has helped to save my child. We are very hopeful for a bright future for Emmanual; a cure and freedom to return back to our normal lives.

– Chifundo, mother of 6-year-old Emmanual,

a cancer patient in Malawi –

Emmanual's story

Emmanual with his mother Chifundo at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital. IHP medicines ensured Emmanual could get the chemotherapy he needed.

When Chifundo noticed a mass on the left side of her 6-year-old son Emmanual’s stomach, she rushed him straight to their local health centre in their home village of Chileka, Malawi. Emmanual was immediately referred to the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital, the main tertiary care centre in Malawi. "We knew that it was serious as we were referred to the special care ward," Chifundo told us. It was there that Emmanual was diagnosed with cancer.

One of the main barriers to accessing healthcare in Malawi is its cost. "We struggle to get by and even buy food in normal times," Chifundo said. "So we wouldn’t be able to buy the medicines as they are very expensive."

International Health Partners (IHP) delivers quality, cancer treatments to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Malawi, ensuring children like Emmanual have access to the cancer care they need, completely free of charge. "Thankfully there is no cost to me, we have never paid a penny, even for our transport. Our lives have changed tremendously, but the free medicine has helped to save my child. We are very hopeful for a bright future for Emmanual; a cure and freedom to return back to our normal lives."
