We take seriously the news of the suspension and proposed cuts to USAID this week, and the impact this will have on vulnerable people worldwide.
This comes at a time when half of the world’s population lack appropriate access to medical care. We are seeing the highest levels of displacement since the Second World War and there has been a notable surge in the number and scale of humanitarian emergencies across the globe. Alongside this, we are navigating shifting epidemiology, the threat of pandemic and rising numbers of patients with complex and chronic disease.
IHP continues to ship medicines and medical supplies to patients most in need, in conflict and climate-affected regions worldwide. We remain incredibly grateful to our donors, funders and partners, for their role in helping change the lives of millions of patients every year.
The current changes to USAID and suspension of funding has impacted some of our partners, and we remain in close contact with them. As much as possible, our partners are adjusting and flexing their programmes, and looking for alternative funding solutions, to ensure delivery of their usual services. We stand in solidarity with them, and all frontline workers as they navigate these changing times.
Our 20-year journey has shown us the power of cross-sector collaboration and the incredible commitment from our partners in the healthcare industry, NGOs, logistics and so many more, to change the outcomes for millions of people globally.
We stand together as a global community, in partnership, ready and open to harness our skills, expertise, networks, and passion to support crisis-affected communities worldwide.
